Battle of Towton 1461
On Palm Sunday 1461 the biggest battle ever
fought on english soil took place at Towton. The battle turned out to be the
turning point in the long fought wars of the roses between Lancashire and
Yorkshire. On this one day between 28-36,000 were killed. The photos here are of
the memorial day and service that are held every Palm Sunday to remember the
fallen men by re-enactors. A camp depicting how the men will have lived at the
time and battlefield walks also take place every year. The photos here were
taken at the 2009/10 meetings. More information
