Castle Howard
Castle Howard took over 100 years to be built,
built for the 3rd Earl of Carlise. Starting in 1699 it wasnt fully completed
until 1811. The original house was built by John Vanberg who it was reported had
never built anything in his life before, the huge dome was a later addition and
is unique in that no other house had such a structure. A fire in 1940 destroyed
the dome and 20 rooms and the dome wasnt fully repaired until the early 1960s,
other rooms were not completely repaired until the early 1980s. Castle Howard
was the house used for the popular tv series Brideshead Revisted
