Lead Church
This small church stands alone in the
middle of a field used for grazing animals, possibly once a private chapel
belonging to a manor house long gone. The church is located within walking
distance of Towton where the last major battle of the Wars of the Roses was
fought in 1461. The gravestones set inside the church have the name Tyas and
this would most likely be the name of the former owners and builders of the
church which seems to be the case in so many other churches too.
